- There was little opposition to the Nazis, was this because of prosperity?
Small Businesses
- Nazis promised them much
- Nazis banned new department stores
- Restricted the size of older ones
- Competing Jewish businesses closed down
- Number of self employed tradesmen decrees, however value of their trade increased
Farmers
- Debts were written off
- Food price increased
- There were restrictions of what was to be produced
- There was a shortage of farm labor, because many workers left to the towns for higher wages
Big Business
- Benefited from rearmament contracts
- Trade unions banned
- Value of industry rose
- Had to donate to the Nazis to keep their support
- Government controlled wages, prices, profits and imports
- Nazis made industry produce what they wanted
Unskilled workers
- They had to work on government projects
- Government schemes paid less than unemployment benefit
- Cheap accommodation provided
- For some, this was the only source of income, and it saved their lives.
