Small Businesses

  • Nazis promised them much
  • Nazis banned new department stores
  • Restricted the size of older ones
  • Competing Jewish businesses closed down
  • Number of self employed tradesmen decrees, however value of their trade increased

Farmers

  • Debts were written off
  • Food price increased
  • There were restrictions of what was to be produced
  • There was a shortage of farm labor, because many workers left to the towns for higher wages

Big Business

  • Benefited from rearmament contracts
  • Trade unions banned
  • Value of industry rose
  • Had to donate to the Nazis to keep their support
  • Government controlled wages, prices, profits and imports
  • Nazis made industry produce what they wanted

Unskilled workers

  • They had to work on government projects
  • Government schemes paid less than unemployment benefit
  • Cheap accommodation provided
  • For some, this was the only source of income, and it saved their lives.
