Efficiency = (useful energy output/useful energy input) x 100

Mankind needs to find an alternative to fossil fuels because they will run out.

Nuclear Fusion

  • Combine two light hydrogen atoms
  • This makes heavier ones, and during the process there is the realease of energy
  • It is clean

Nuclear Fission

  • A proton in directed at Uranium 235
  • It splits its nucleus, and heat energy is given out
  • It is not clean, and an uncontrolled reaction

Other types of energy sources:

  • Solar Energy: harnessing the nuclear fusion power of the sun
  • Wind Power: Wind used to dirve turbines that turns kinetic energy into electrical energy
  • Hydrogen and Fuel Cells: Hydrogen can used as a fuel, with only water as the combustion product.
  • Tidal Wave Energy: This is using the difference in elevation between high and low tides to create energy through a turbine.
  • Biomass: The burning of vegetation and plant matter to generate energy from heat.
  • Ocean Thermal: Capturing the heat in the sea
  • Hydro Electric Power: Flow of built up water to run turbines.
