Your GCSE French / German exam is split into 4 skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each skill is worth 25% of the overall grade so it is important that you prepare well for each paper. The secret to successful languages revision is little and often.

Vocabulary:

You should aim to learn 5 new words every day from your vocabulary guide. Each day you should revise the words from the previous day and learn 5 more. It is a good idea to write them down, rather than simply reading them. This will help you to remember them.

www.aiglon.ch/langlink/finteractivegcse.html (French)

These websites offer you the opportunity to practise your vocabulary in their vocabulary quizzes. Don’t forget to write down and learn any new words!

Listening:

For this skill you need to revise question words, numbers, the alphabet, the time and vocabulary from each topic area.

www.ashcombe.surrey.sch.uk – language teaching resources > student resources > videos on demand.

This website offers you the opportunity to practise your listening skills by watching the video. By completing the gap fill exercises you will also be able to develop your vocabulary and grammatical awareness.

Speaking:

For this skill you will need to prepare the speaking test questions for the 6 topic areas. The sooner you finish your answers, the sooner you will be able to start learning them. You should all take advantage of the booster classes to practise your speaking test questions.

Reading:

For this skill you will need to revise question words and vocabulary from each topic area. The library has a large selection of books and magazines, which you can borrow to practise your reading skills. Don’t forget to write down and learn any new words! The following websites will also allow you to practise your reading skills.

www.zut.org.uk (French – free after 4pm)

www.gut.org.uk (German – free after 4 pm)

Writing:

For this skill you will need to revise the three main tenses, connectives, word order and giving and justifying opinions. You should also look back at any model answers you have in your exercise book to remind you how to answer and develop each task.
